Can you tell us about the Heritage of Russell Eaton Salon?
The sign of a great salon is one that has stood the test of time, and Russell Eaton salons have done just that. Steeped in history and with a strong family heritage at it’s core, the Russell Eaton brand has truly made its mark on British hairdressing over the last four decades. The last year was arguably one the most memorable as the brand celebrated 40 years in business.
The Russell Eaton brand began from humble beginnings and the first Russell Eaton salon opened its door in 1978 in Barnsley, Yorkshire. Over the next 30 years, the salon transitioned through several moves and expanded into bigger premises. Eventually in 2009 the Russell Eaton brand had become such a success with both customers and within the industry, the decision was made to open a new flagship salon in Leeds city centre.

The Russell Eaton team members have remained loyal to the salons, with many team members having grown up alongside the business, sharing and expanding its ever-growing success. At least two of the Barnsley salon team members have worked within the salon for over 30 years, while another four members have worked in the salon for a decade. However perhaps its greatest asset is the fact that their clients have remained loyal too. Many clients have been visiting the salon for decades and in some cases, families spanning three generations visit the salon. The Russell Eaton brand truly has family and tradition at its heart.

However, it is not just in Yorkshire that Russell Eaton is a renowned name, the salons have become recognised globally for their creativity and ground-breaking hairdressing.

Hair is the greatest fashion accessory, many celebrities really embrace changing their hair to enhance their look but also to grab the attention of the media! There is nowhere we see this more than at the Oscars.

It has been great to see how celebrities are experimenting more and we are seeing shorter hair cuts and colour changes! We are all still ‘Balayage’ obsessed at the moment, it works so well for so many people, but these stronger shapes and colours are also an amazing option for many.

Charlize Theron made a huge statement with her new brunette hair at the Oscars which is an incredible new and strong statement look. This isn’t the first time the Academy Award winner has had brown hair, but we haven’t seen her as anything other than her signature blonde in years.

This wasn’t the only major hair transformation seen at this year’s Oscars. Emilia Clarke also debuted a short chestnut brown hair colour on the red carpet, having dyed it back from blonde.
The Game of Thrones star has had blonde hair for the better part of a year, but has made a return to her roots for Hollywood’s biggest night. News reports said that Clarke allegedly dyed her hair herself using boxed hair dye from the pharmacy, can this be done at home?….No! It can be a very complex process when changing your hair colour and needs to be achieved by a professional, where they can advise you on the correct tone for your skin and ensure you achieve colour perfection. Very dark hair can be draining on some people, but adding warmth and tone can make darker hair work for many!

Emma Stone

Also wore a warm copper brunette shade making this years Oscars the year of the glossy bob.

Jennifer Lopez

Gold was another big trend on the Oscars red carpet, and Jennifer Lopez pulled it off the only way she knows how: Fiercely, with her hair blown out and styled in side-swept waves that hark back to Old Hollywood.

Glenn Close

Style was not just for those in their younger years; Glenn Close wore a super modern and long grown out pixie cut, it was styled in soft, tousled waves.

The Wearable 2019 Hair Colour Trends You’re Going to Want to Try Immediately

2019 Hair colour trends

2019 is rolling around quicker than you can say fashion week and the trends are starting to already creep into our social feeds. As the brights of the summer fade out consumers are looking at a more parred back palette for the new year. Think muted metallics, and inviting rustic tones to enhance natural colours as we move into the new year! Zöe Irwin, Wella Professionals UK trend expert and Robert Eaton, the brand’s technical director spoke to us about what we can expect from the 2019 hair colour trends.

Futuristic Tones

Think… soft subtle metallics and shine

What Rob says… “This is a really exciting colour palette to work with as it is such a new and varied mixture of colours and tones to work with, it is possible to introduce this to many clients in different ways as we use so many different techniques. This might be fine hidden veils of tone that breaks through longer hair, or by layering the different tones over hair to give a new and unseen blend of colours that changes throughout visits to the salon.”

What Zöe says… “Futuristic Tones can be very soft and work incredibly well for clients who aren’t bold but want to try something different. I would recommend using this trend as a very soft global colour which is very flattering – if your client is a blonde, you can also work some highlights or balayage though the bottom to complement it.

I’d also do some lighter pieces around the hairline to give a very soft reflection. The great news is that these tones work well with both cool and warm skin tones.”

Amber Slate

Think… gorgeous autumnal tones, remixed.

What Rob says… “Yes they can work for most skin tones, and the mixture of cool and warm tones can mean it’s a great way of making these colours work for more people. I think that clients who generally opt for warmer hair tones will like this trend as it will make their hair cooler, and anyone with a more ashen hair tone will like how we can make this both warm and cool together.

The traditional copper colour can sometimes be too over powering for many people and this often only suits a pale skin tone, this new Amber slate tone offers a modern and fresh approach to warm hair.”

What Zöe says… “Amber Slate is actually a warm colour with some cool undertones so it means that you are really wide open to suitability on clients. The tone does have more of a golden glow, so for anyone with very yellow tones in the skin, I would stay away from anything too against the hairline. If someone has a warm skin tone, maybe an olive tone I would use placement of Amber Slate internally but on a base that is deeper. Where I think it works the best is on people with pale skin tones – it looks incredible!

It’s the most amazing tone to go with the 70’s palette of clothes that people are wearing and I really think this can be the most skin-enhancing tone to wear on the right person. It’s amazing how it brings out eye colour – from lavender blue to green and hazel but equally it’s a great palette for textured hair. I love its soft vibrancy and how it works in a subtle but powerful way. I’ve been working a lot with soft blonde and brunette tones and now this soft copper tone is in my view the modern sexy way to wear your hair colour.”

Get ready for a colour revolution

For well over a century, colour companies have been churning out the same salon formulas. It sounds crazy, but permanent colour in the twenty-first century has contained identical technologies, identical molecules and identical active ingredients (in the form of PPD and PTD) as those devised in the 1800s. For a while, it was a case of ‘if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it’, but despite refinements over the decades, the number of salon clients developing potentially serious allergies to PPD and PTD – both known sensitizers – has continued to rise.

After more than seven years of dedicated research, Wella Professionals has created a solution. Their patented scientific breakthrough, known as ME+TM, is a result of over 3,000 test formulations, and brings colouring bang up to date. It removes the need to rely on risky, antiquated formulas, and means clients are a staggering 60x less likely to develop a new allergy to hair colour.*

page1image2117280

ME+TM, along with its partner innovation, Pure Balance TechnologyTM are exclusive to the new KOLESTON PERFECT line. In combination, they have more than 20 patents and are proven to deliver vibrant, rich colour with less damage, use after use.** The secret behind Pure Balance TechnologyTM’s effectiveness is its ability to minimise the formation of cell- damaging free radicals. It does so by deactivating small impurities in the hair – such as metals – and stops them

interfering with colour development and hair integrity. The result? Better balance of tone from root to tip, better control of depth and up to 100% grey coverage.**
The best bit is as colourists, you don’t need to change your process at all. There are no additives to factor in, no switches in technique required and no compromise on colour range. The new and improved KOLESTON PERFECT features the same mixing ratios, the same development time and the same grey coverage, with the added bonuses of easier mixing, more precise application and improved fragrance.

With naturals, brunettes, reds, blondes and a special mixing range included, new KOLESTON PERFECT is the overdue colour update your staff and clients have been waiting for. Upgrade your salon’s colour experience today by contacting your Wella Professionals representative or visiting www.wella.com.
