HAIR AND FASHION SUMMER TRENDS
Hair inspired by fashion, the hottest hair trends always start from the catwalks of fashion designers. Just like fashion, hair trends evolve and develop each year and unlike jewellery, hand bags, shoes or belts, hair is the one accessory you wear every day.
Here is a guide to our hottest summer 2012 trends.
Glamorous Blow-Out
This spring/summer centre-parted styles reigned supreme, but this season glamour makes a return as well so combine both for this summer’s hottest hair looks. Dig out those heated rollers and dust off that big round blow-dry brush; think Kate Middleton shine and Olivia Palermo bounce. Simple centre-parted locks are given extra volume with subtle waves and a high-shine finish. Try blowdrying your hair upside-down to add some extra va-va-volume
Centre-partings
This is great for fans of cool and casual styles and after a few seasons of side-parted looks, things are going front and centre once again. This look is all about having beautifully coloured, healthy well blow-dried hair and with the emphasis being on simplicity.
Braids & Twists
Braids and twists are often a big trend every spring/summer, but for 2012 the trend has been given an extra high-fashion twist. Opt for a head full of twists and tight braids to really give the look a fashion edge. As seen at Alexander McQueen S/S 2012 where corn-rows made a comeback and McQueen’s girls wore a wrap of tightly-woven braids. But if your not feeling brave enough for some of the quirky twisted styles then a great way of getting the look is to create a similar side braid very modern, simple and has understated elegance. Halo braids were softer and prettier than ever at Valentino, this romantic style is one for anyone with long hair.
60s Volume
The beehive is back!! Not just a little bit of volume at the roots, but full-on BIG hair as seen at Diane Von Furstenberg S/S 2012. This is a fun trend that can be worn as casual or formal as you like its all about making a statement. Sixties beauty emerged backstage at Carolina Herrera, this larger-than-life look requires some serious structural assistance, with half-head wigs, lots of back combing and plenty of hairspray. The 60s beehive, the bouffant, the backcomb – call it what you will, but this chic style is the perfect compliment to all the S/S 12 trends. It works from the office to the red carpet, and a messed up version is sexy and sophisticated.
20s and 50s Vintage
Keira Knightley has been seen embracing one of spring/summer 2012’s most prevalent trends. The actress’ hair was swept into a pretty up-do with a twenties-inspired waved fringe. Designers have introduced a stylish fifties influence to their collections and this can be translated to hair perfectly. Designers constantly look through the archives for inspiration and this season isn’t any different with 2 season defining silhouettes; from the art deco 20s and the 50s – the decade of our Queen’s coronation and the glamour and waves of 50s hair.
